The gîtes Break in the Ardennes, , a real family story

We are Delphine and Sylvie, two women who are both passionate about our region and driven by a single desire: To ensure that your stay is perfect! Then you, too, can feel the magic of the Ardennes!

Delphine, my daughter-in-law and native of Reims, is our administrator. She has deep empathy with our local ways and aesthetics. Together with her architectural studies and many years of experience working in a design office in Paris, she was the perfect person to design and supervise the renovations for our two gîtes.  We think you will love her blend of gentle grandeur and comfort in the detail..

Valentin, my son, an experienced tradesman, took care of the renovation work himself. This was no mean feat! At La Chouette au Bouleau, he knocked down load-bearing walls and completely changed the aspect and flow of the rooms to optimise the amount of light into the living areas. At Chez Constant, only the walls, the roof and the veranda remain from the original. But don't worry, with his knowledge of both traditional and modern practices, you will see old Hargnies but you'll feel modern France.

As for me, I'm Sylvie! I've always lived in Hargnies, and you can count on me for advice and good ideas for your visits in the Ardennes. As a local councillor in Hargnies, I am still very much involved in the life of our village. For instance, I run a craft club which organizes an increasingly popular Christmas market in Hargnies. I'm also a retired shopkeeper in the village (butcher's shop, then a multi-service grocery shop).

So Break en Ardennes, is a real family story!

Delphine et Sylvie, your hosts at Break en Ardennes'

Ardennes authenticity and eco-responsibility at the heart of your holiday home

And it's a long history. Our gîtes have been created from old buildings which have always belonged to our family. They were constructed in our typical Ardennes architecture. La Chouette au Bouleau was originally the family farm's sheepfold, while Chez Constant was the house where I (Sylvie) grew up. Constant was my father. He passed my childhood home on to me so naturally we named the gîte after him.

Green, green, green... Our gîtes are perfect for a green break and slow tourism. And as respect for the environment and sustainable development should not take holidays, "green" has been our approach.

We are committed to respecting nature and the environment in our daily lives, and these principles have not left us during the design and construction, as well as when running our gîtes. We have made a point of using as many responsible and local materials as possible during the renovations. At La Chouette au Bouleau, for example, the magnificent floor comes from a local sawmill, the metal beams are relics of the region's steel-making history. As for this incredible kitchen island, it is made of blue stone, typical of the region! At Chez Constant, your green waste can be disposed of in the composter.

Our wish being that you feel like at home, the choice of second hand (or even more) furniture seemed an evidence to us, that's why many family items, mottled or recovered, are mixed with more modern ones.

When you choose to stay with us, you are choosing Ardennes authenticity and eco-responsibility!

We look forward to welcoming you and advise you

If you feel like "darne" as Arthur Rimbaud, the local hero, wrote in "Les poètes de sept ans" or simply need to unwind and experience a moment of complete regeneration and relaxation, look no further, you have come to the right place! Everything has been designed to offer you maximum comfort.. And as you may have seen from the photos, the facilities are not rubbish, as we say here! We really want you to feel at home.

I, Sylvie, will personally welcome you to our gîtes, from 3pm until 9pm. Don't worry if you need to arrive later, we'll send you instructions on how to collect the keys and I'll be sure to come and say hello at another time to give you some advice and explanations about the accommodation and its surroundings.

Are you coming by train? I can pick you up at the stations of Vireux-Molhain, Haybes or Fumay. Please do not forget to inform me at least one week before your arrival.

Do you want to rent bikes or pre-order bread? I can also take care of that! Don't hesitate to ask me about it.

Last but not least, if during your stay you need any information or anything else, don't hesitate to contact me. I will be available throughout your stay to help you and guarantee you a perfect Break in the Ardennes..
