A village in the Ardennes authentic and warm
Hargnies is a village of nearly 500 people that has retained all its authenticity. Located in the heart of the Ardennes Regional Nature Park, it is surrounded by 3000 hectares of forest. You will be charmed by its typical appeal, its peace and the kindness of its residents.
To discover the artisanal cold meats for which the village of Hargnies is renowned, book your platter of cold meats from the Celli butcher's shop. We will deliver it directly to your gîte. White pudding, Ardenne ham, dry sausage, country paté... perfect for an evening "aperitif with friends" or "relaxation with family"!
Need bread? The Pâte à choux bakery in Vireux-Wallerand delivers baguettes and croissants every morning (except Sunday). And for your daily shopping, you will only have to drive 7 km to Fumay, where you will find a supermarket.
Fancy going out in the evening without having to take the car? The restaurant L’Aulnet, just a stone's throw from your gîte, offers an Italian menu that everyone loves. You can also take advantage of its takeaway service. A chip shop is also open on the main square every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6pm to 9pm.
Country walks for everyone and at your own pace
Are you a hiker? Several forest hikes, including 2 loops of the ELFE network, run through Hargnies. These walks in the open country have a fairly small difference in altitude. They are perfect for getting back into shape. They will help you discover the forest and its fauna. One of them will even take you across the border. And with the help of the elves of the magic forest, your children can try to find Ardwen's arrow!
The more athletic ones will reach the Roche à Fépin by crossing the Risdoux valley. As a reward, they will be able to admire some superb views of Haybes and Fépin.

In the Ardennes, even your car can take a holiday
Would you like to forget your car during your holiday? Your holiday home "la Chouette au Bouleau" is located in the heart of the forest massif of the Ardennes plateau. You will be able to follow the "Circuit de randonnées des Bois d'Hargnies" from your gîte. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to see a beautiful Lady boar accompanied by a host of pigglets or to hear the bellowing of a stag?
And if you're a mountain biker, you'll be delighted to ride along the various mountain bike trails that criss-cross the forest. There are about ten of them!
If you are a cyclist ? don't miss the Trans-Ardennes. This greenway, which crosses the Ardennes, passes near Hargnies. Its route, which follows the old towpath of the Meuse, will take you from Givet to Mouzon... if you want to stay in France. Because its course actually ends in Maastricht, in Holland.
